What is Nutritional Therapy?

Some of the founders of modern medicine, including Hippocrates who’s statement “let medicine be your food, let food be your medicine” is the basis for holistic nutrition, have long understood the relationship between food and health. That link has become lost in medicine today, where doctors and other health professions are taught very little about nutrition and it’s role in health maintenance and disease prevention, and our educational system devotes less and less time to teaching lay people basic food knowledge and skills for health.

Nutritional therapy aims to restore the link between the health of our bodies, the quality of our food, and the affects of our lifestyle on our overall well-being, and works to improve well-being by identifying and correcting nutritional imbalances with individually designed dietary and supplemental prescriptions.

Many people have likened food to being like the gas we put in our cars to make them run, but a car doesn’t take the gas you put in the tank and use it to rebuild it’s engine. To us, food is the very substance we are made of: if we put vital, healthy food in our bodies, we greatly increase our chances of being vital and healthy. If we put non-nutritious, junk food in our bodies, they will run like they are made of junk.

Many windows of opportunity for creating a nourishing environment that can set people up for excellent health life-long exist in pregnancy and early childhood. Nutritional Therapy is highly recommended for people thinking of starting a family or with young children.

Nutritional therapy can also help facilitate recovery and improve health status for people with numerous conditions including:
